Many approach court as CCB sits on complaints  

70% Cases Registered After HC’s Intervention

Chennai: The best way to get the central crime branch (CCB), which handles serious frauds, to register FIR and probe land grabs and white collar offences seems to be approaching the high court.

    This year alone, about 70% of CCB cases were registered only after the complainants moved the Madras high court first and obtained a specific direction to the CCB to register and probe the complaint.

    It is best illustrated by a cheating case sought to be registered by S Karthik. The complaint was initially brushed aside by the CCB officials saying it was a ‘civil dispute’ and hence no FIR could be registered. He then moved the high court and obtained a direction for registration of an FIR. A probe then revealed commission of a crime and police had to arrest an iron merchant and a few others for cheating the complainant of 35 crore. “But for the high court’s intervention, my complaint would have yielded nothing,” said Karthik.

    The CCB unit in Chennai has been bifurcated into city and suburban wings, and they have so far registered 210 cases. “As many as 150 petitions are still stuck on the table of police officers, awaiting registration of FIRs. The petitions need some clarification,” a police officer said.

    If these complaints do not get any solution, the complainants may move the high court under the Section 482 of CrPC, for a direction to the CCB to register cases, he said.

    As more petitioners are knocking at the doors of the high court, an assistant commissioner of police has been assigned specially to look after the cases pertaining to the CCB alone in the court.

அதுவும் நம் தமிழ் நாட்டில் உள்ள அரசு அலுவலகங்களில் இந்த சட்டத்தின் நேரிடையான, உண்மையான் பதில்களை உரிய கால கட்டத்தில் பெறுவது என்பது மிகவும் கடினம்.  இவர்களுக்கு சாதகமான நிலையில் தான் மாநில தகவல் ஆணையமும் இயங்கி வருகிறது.
